Introduced and demoed at Macworld, version 4.0 will ship in early February.
Does TypeIt4Me support Leopard?
Yes, even version 3.1.1 runs fine, but 3.2.4 released last November even adds a component to allow preview of its files using Quick Look.
Does TypeIt4Me work under Classic as well as OS X Leopard and Tiger?
Yes, but you need to install a different version under each system (the latest version for Classic is 4.8.2).
Can I use an abbreviations file created with the Classic version in the OS X version?
Yes, but once the old abbreviations file is converted to the new format it can no longer be used with the Classic version (one way transfer only).

Make sure you store the abbreviations file on the same volume/partition as the startup system volume.
